Following our inspection, we are pleased to share that Welford Sibbertoft and Sulby Endowed School was judged to be delivering the expected standard of education across the majority of areas. Inspectors confirmed that ‘leaders are ambitious for every pupil’, and we were proud to see our school community recognised for the warmth, belonging and care that make the school so special. Importantly, all safeguarding standards were fully met.

The inspection report highlights many strengths of our school, including:

• “Leaders ensure that the school is a calm and purposeful place for pupils to learn in.”
• “Reading is a priority and phonics teaching is effective.”
• “Leaders have designed a broad and ambitious curriculum that sets out precisely what pupils need to know and remember.”
• “There is a collective determination among school leaders and the trust to secure the best outcomes for all pupils. Pupils’ best interests are central to the decisions they make.”
• “Leaders’ focus on pupils’ wider development and wellbeing is central to their work.”

We were particularly proud that inspectors recognised the sense of community at the heart of school life. The report noted that pupils live out ‘the Welford way’ of being ready, respectful and kind, and that relationships between staff and pupils are consistently positive. We were also pleased to see your support as families acknowledged directly in the report, which states that ‘parents and carers are positive about many aspects of the school’s work and recognise the improvements being made’ and that ‘most speak highly of the care and education that their children receive and the progress they make.’

The inspection also recognised our rich programme of wider opportunities, from clubs, residential trips and cultural visits to the leadership roles pupils take on as house captains, digital leaders and members of the eco squad. Inspectors noted that these ‘experiences build pupils’ sense of responsibility and help them gain important life skills’ and that they ‘prepare pupils well for their future lives’. Our sustainability work, which has both won awards and woven its way into everyday school life, was singled out as a particular accomplishment.

Three areas were identified as ‘needs attention’ – achievement, curriculum and teaching, and inclusion – meaning that while there is good provision in place, further work is needed to embed improvements that are already underway, particularly around support for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities. We are fully committed to building on the strong foundations highlighted by inspectors to ensure every child achieves their very best.

SIAMS Inspection Reports

The Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) inspection focuses on the impact of the Church school's Christian vision on pupils and adults. This involves looking at the school’s Christian vision, the provision the school makes because of this vision and how effective this provision is in enabling all pupils to flourish.
